Frequently asked questions
At Out And About North East CIC, we understand you might have questions before you visit. We've compiled a list of the most common inquiries to help you feel prepared and comfortable. Our priority is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone in the North East.
Do i have to talk to people?
Not at all. Our sessions are centered around you. When you arrive, one of our amazing volunteers will say hello, introduce themselves, and show you the layout—but there is absolutely no pressure to socialize if you don’t want to. If you prefer to just sit quietly and relax, that is completely fine! Many of our members started by joining us and simply sitting with their feet up. We are always available if you need anything, but we will never pressure you to chat.
Can i bring a support worker or a friend?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. If you are feeling nervous or are new to the group, having a supportive friend, family member, or support worker with you can make a huge difference. We want you to feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
Is there a cost?
We ask for a small contribution of £1.50 to help cover our running costs. However, if you are financially struggling but need a safe place to go, please do not worry. You don’t even need to mention it we understand that times are tough and we handle this very discreetly. Money should never be a barrier to you coming along.
What if i need to leave early?
That is absolutely fine. Our sessions are flexible "drop-ins" (Mondays 12pm–4pm and Saturdays 3:30pm–6:30pm). You are welcome to arrive late or leave early—whatever suits your schedule or energy levels. The only thing we ask is that you sign in on arrival so we know who is in the building for health and safety reasons.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes. There is parking available Location & Parking
We are located at 78 Ellison Street, Jarrow, and there are plenty of easy parking options nearby. The most convenient place to park is the Viking Centre car park, which is free and just a 2-minute walk around the corner. There is also free council parking available at Napier Street (4 minutes away) or Walter Street (3 minutes away). Please be careful if you choose to park at the nearby Morrisons, as they often have strict time limits for customers—we wouldn’t want you to get a fine!
