Connecting our community

Our 'Friendly Face' volunteers greet new members with a smile, helping them feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. Our 'Conversation Starters' are experts at spotting someone sitting alone and sparking a friendly chat to ensure everyone feels included. And our 'Chief Tea Makers'? They're the unsung heroes, ensuring there's always a warm brew and biscuits – because a good cuppa really does fix everything!

Supporting from afar

If you prefer to help from home, our 'Social Media Wizards' can share our posts, comment on updates, or capture event photos to share our story online. Our 'Idea Generators' are crucial for planning exciting new trips and activities, researching everything from bus times to group discussions. And the 'Set-Up Crew' ensures everything runs smoothly by arranging chairs and tidying up.

We understand time is precious. That's why we champion micro-volunteering. Can you spare 30 minutes to hand out flyers? 10 minutes to wash up mugs after a session? Or just share our Facebook post once a week? Absolutely fine! Every small action contributes significantly to combating loneliness in our community.

​We are so grateful for our fantastic current volunteers, but as we continue to grow and expand, we need more hands on deck! Growing our team helps share the load, eases pressure, and allows for much more flexibility.

​Whether you want to help hands-on or behind the scenes, we have a role for you:

  • ​Drop-Ins & Days Out: Support our sessions in Jarrow (Mondays 12-4, Saturdays starting Oct 3rd) and help out on trips.
  • ​Media & Marketing: Help manage our website, social media, and distribute flyers/advertisements.
  • ​Fundraising: Assist with securing donations and raising funds.

​Requirements: Good communication skills, a friendly attitude, and an understanding of neurodivergent individuals (for front-facing roles). Must be 16+.

​Volunteer With Us - Out and About North East CIC

​We are a volunteer-run community interest company, and while we already have a fantastic group of volunteers, we are constantly growing and expanding! Bringing more people onto the team helps take the pressure off our current members and allows us to offer much more flexibility in how we run things.

​Whether you want to be hands-on with our members or use your skills behind the scenes, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for dedicated people aged 16 and over for the following roles:

​Current Volunteer Opportunities:

  • ​Drop-In Support (Jarrow): Welcome visitors, assist members with refreshments (especially those with limited mobility), chat, and help with arts and crafts.
    • ​Times: Mondays (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM) and Saturdays (Resuming Oct 3rd, 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM).
  • ​Days Out Assistants: Help manage, supervise, and support the group during our regular excursions and trips.
  • ​Digital & Marketing Support: Help us grow our reach by managing our website, running social media channels, and distributing flyers and advertisements.
  • ​Fundraising & Donations: Help us secure vital funds and community donations to keep our programs running.

​What We Are Looking For:

  • ​Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • ​Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • ​Experience or confidence in dealing with neurodivergent individuals (required for drop-ins and days out).
  • ​Reliability and commitment (a volunteer agreement will be signed upon joining).
